Panggarangan

Panggarangan district is one of the sub-districts on the southern coast of Lebak Regency facing directly the Indonesian Ocean, sitting above the Indo-Australian subduction zone. The presence of several tourist attractions and strategic industries in the south of Lebak Regency makes the level tsunami disaster risk high. Based on the tsunami inundation modeling (worst case scenario M8.7), the maximum potential depth of tsunami inundation in Panggarangan District can reach 6-14 meters.

As a local civil society organization, the Gugus Mitigasi Lebak Selatan (GMLS) has a very vital role as an initiator and driving force for the community in the preparation and fulfillment of 12 tsunami ready indicators in Panggarangan village. The element of local wisdom that is widely applied in disaster mitigation efforts is its own uniqueness in Panggarangan village. The active participation of the community in various mitigation and preparedness activities, the existence of Gugus Mitigasi Lebak Selatan (GMLS) and assistance from various parties have contributed to the fulfillment of 12 indicators in Panggarangan Village.

Efforts to prepare Panggarangan Village to become a Tsunami Ready Community was done by Gugus Mitigasi Lebak Selatan (GMLS) by creating a strong collaborator among others with The Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics of Indonesia (BMKG), U-INSPIRE Indonesia, Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Kidzsmile Foundation, National Disaster Management Office (BNPB), Multimedia Nusantara University (UMN), ID Flow Stories, RAPI (Inter Inhabitant Radio Indonesia), Indonesia Offroad Federation, Sky Volunteer, PT Zenith, Biner Dev, BSI Foundation and PLN Peduli.

In early January 2022, after going through the verification of the completeness of 12 indicators, Panggarangan village received a Tsunami Ready Community recognition certificate at the national level. The Panggarangan village received the IOC-UNESCO tsunami ready recognition also in 2022.
