21 April 2007, Mw 6.2, Aisen, Chile

 

The Servicio Hidrográfico y Oceanográfico de la Armada de Chile (SHOA) reported that a M6.2 earthquake produced a landslide in the fjord area close to Puerto Chacabuco. The landslide generated 3 waves, the bigger, it was reported, was about 6 meters., and it affected a local area only.  A SHOA tide gauge, located 10 km from the landslide, measured only a 0.8 m variation. As of 1400 GMT, 10 people were missing; most were workers from salmon aquaculture farms in the area.  SHOA is the Tsunami National Contact and Tsunami Warning Focal Point for Chile.
