Tsunami Ready ceremony
On 28 September 2018, Mr Louis Jacques Etienne received on behalf of Fort-Liberté the Tsunami Ready ICG/CARIBE EWS recognition, valid for 4 years and renewable by fulfilling the same requirements on a continued basis. With funding provided by USAID (2017-2018) and the European Union DIPECHO (2016-2017), and with the support of the national Civil Protection (DPC), the Navigation and Maritime Service (SEMANAH) and international partners including NOAA/NWS CTWP, the city worked out the requirements for this recognition. This includes 10 items distributed among Mitigation, Preparedness and Response elements. Tsunami inundation and evacuation maps, tsunami signs posts, 24/7 local focal points, public awareness sessions and a full-scale tsunami drill are part of these requirements.
