The Intergovernmental Coordination Group for the Pacific Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System (ICG/PTWS) was established in 1965 through Resolution 6 at the Fourth Session of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission General Assembly.  The ICG/PTWS first convened in 1968, and was called the International Coordination Group for the Tsunami Warning System in the Pacific (ITSU) until its name change in 2005.  The main purpose of the gGoup is to coordinate international tsunami mitigation activities, including the dissemination of timely tsunami warnings, watches, and advisory bulletins throughout the Pacific to member states in accordance with procedures outlined in the PTWS Operational Users Guide (formerly called its Communications Plan).
