ITIC will pay for your hotel room directly; you should pay yourself for other
miscellaneous charges.
Transportation:
ITIC will provide you with a Honolulu Bus System Pass will allow you unlimited use of the bus system on the island of Oahu. A Map Guide Book is included in your packet.
Laura will provide transportation to and from the Tsunami Symposium meeting, or you may take the bus; please let Laura know. Please be ready in the Lobby ready for pickup at 8:00 am each morning
On June 3-6 and 10-11, we will meet at ITIC’s office at 9 am, and finish by 4:30-5 pm each day. Bus transportation from your hotel to ITIC is very easy and should take less than 30 minutes. Simple directions are: Take any bus that runs along Ala Moana Blvd, and get off on the next stop after the US Federal Building; ITIC is located in the Pacific Guardian Center, Mauka
tower (mountain-side) on the 22nd floor - the building is the mirrored-glass buildings (30 stories high) in front of you when you get off the bus. Bus stops to return to Waikiki are on the opposite of the street.
Laura will provide transportation to and from the Honolulu Airport.
Hawaii Island Field Trip:
There will be one field trip to Hawaii island (Big Island) on Friday, June 7, 2002.Laura will arrange ground and air transportation; we will probably have to leave early (hotel pickup at 6 am or earlier) and return late (7 pm) in order to have time to accomplish all the activities listed. More detailed information will be given later.
If you would like to stay on the Big Island that weekend, you may do so; please let me know as soon as possible (preferably by Thursday, May 30, 2002) so that I can arrange the air and hotel accommodations; to do this, you will have to check out of your Waikiki hotel -- if you do not,
then ITIC cannot pay for your hotel accommodations on the Big Island.
Meals:
ITIC will provide reimburse you for meals at a flat per diem rate of about $65-70/day. Actual receipts for meals are not required, and you are free to spend as little, or as much, as you would like each day for meals; in other words, if you spend more, ITIC will not pay for the extra amount over the flat per diem rate. Breakfast and dinners during the week, and all meals on the weekends will be on your own; we will lunch together during the week, but you should each pay for your meal yourself.
Emergency Expenses:
If there are miscellaneous, or other emergency expenses, ITIC has a small budget for these, and you may be able to claim these as long as they were directly necessary for your use during the Visiting Experts Program. Please ask Laura is you are unsure.
Telecommunications:
Computers and Internet access, and printers will be available from the ITIC office for checking email, word processing (such as for the Experts’ reports or presentations), and other tasks. Please let Laura or Linda know if you need anything. Telephone and FAX services will also be available for your use at the office; emergency calls back to your country for official business are permitted on a limited basis.
