"The twelfth annual Regional Tsunami Exercise, CARIBE WAVE 23, was conducted on the 23rd of March 2023 at 1400 UTC. UNESCO/IOC Intergovernmental Coordination Group for Tsunamis and Other Coastal Hazards for the Caribbean and Adjacent Regions (CARIBE EWS) Member States and Territories will have two scenarios from which to choose: a tsunami generated by an earthquake in the Gulf of Honduras and a tsunami generated by a volcanic eruption of Mt Pelée, Martinique. Tsunami exercises such as CARIBE WAVE are important to validate and advance end-to-end tsunami preparedness across the Caribbean and Adjacent Regions. All 48 CARIBE EWS Member States and Territories, stakeholders, and communities at risk are encouraged to plan for and participate in the exercise."

CARIBE WAVE webinars
Two series of webinars are held for Member States’ stakeholders prior to the exercise. The first webinar is dedicated to explaining the exercise’s objectives, tsunami scenarios, and tsunami products, whereas the second webinar focuses on communication systems and the exercise evaluation. They are conducted in English, Spanish, and French to facilitate the participation of all the countries. A post-exercise webinar “Hot-Wash” is held for Member States to discuss their experience and participation on the exercise. All webinars are recorded, and the presentations are made available.
