Exercise Pacific Wave 24

At its 30th session (ICG/PTWS-XXX), 11-15 September 2023, the Intergovernmental Coordination Group for the Pacific Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System approved the conduct of the eleventh Exercise Pacific Wave in 2024 (PacWave 24) in the months of September through to November 2024 to support International Disaster Risk Reduction Day (13 October) and World Tsunami Awareness Day (5 November).
PacWave24 Logo 05 The aim of the PacWave24 is to test PTWS Tsunami Service Provider (TSP) arrangements, and Country preparedness arrangements and operational procedures to respond and recover from a destructive tsunami.

The exercise objectives are to:
(a) Test communications from the PTWS Tsunami Service Providers to Tsunami Warning Focal Points and National Tsunami Warning Centers (NTWC) of Member States.
(b) Test NAVAREA communications from PTWC to each NAVAREA Coordinator through concerned NTWCs
(c) Test regional communication and cooperation between Member States.
(d) Test national communication and cooperation and readiness within the country.
