2019 ITIC Training Programme-Hawaii (ITP-HAWAII)
on Tsunami Early Warning Systems and the PTWC Enhanced Products,
Tsunami Evacuation Planning and Tsunami Ready Programm
3-13 September 2019
Honolulu, Hawaii
ITP-Hawaii will be conducted in Hawaii using Hawaii as a working example of an end-to-end tsunami warning and mitigation system, with the PTWC serving as Hawaii's local tsunami warning center.
IOC Circular Letter 2770 inviting nominations was issued on 20 May 2019.
The deadline for nominations is 14 June 2019.
Recognizing that local tsunamis remain the most challenging operation for countries, the 2019 ITP- Hawaii will focus its training on Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for warning and emergency response as guided by the draft National Tsunami Warning Center Minimum Competency Levels and the Local-Source Tsunami Response Best Practice approved this past April at the 28th session of the Intergovernmental Coordination Group for the Pacific Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System (Nicaragua, 2–5 April 2019).
The training will also focus on preparedness and tsunami evacuation planning, including inundation and evacuation mapping, response planning, and exercising, in the context of meeting the guidelines of the UNESCO-IOC Tsunami Ready Programme for community recognition. On Days 8 and 9, a tsunami exercise will be conducted requiring country decision-making and action using national products supplemented by the PTWC Enhanced Products.
More information can be assessed through the IOC ITP-Hawaii 2019 web site.
